Who we are
BiteTalk (“BiteTalk”, “we”, “us”) is an iPhone app operated by Shahriar Azad, Chattogram, Bangladesh. Questions about this policy: [email protected].
What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Sign-in identifiers from Apple or Google (account ID and, if you share it, email address) | To create your account and keep your log synced and recoverable |
| Profile and goals (age, sex, height, weight, activity level, target) | To calculate your calorie and macro targets |
| Food log, including the text of what you said or typed | To identify foods, calculate nutrition and show your history |
| Weight entries | To show progress and adjust your target |
| Subscription status (not payment details) | To unlock BiteTalk Pro; Apple handles all payments |
| “This looks wrong” reports you send about a food | To fix our nutrition data |
Before you sign in, BiteTalk may use an anonymous account so your onboarding answers aren’t lost. It is linked to your Apple or Google sign-in when you save your progress.
Your voice
Speech is turned into text by Apple’s speech recognition, on your iPhone whenever your device supports it. On devices or languages without on-device support, Apple may process the audio under Apple’s privacy policy. BiteTalk itself never records, uploads or stores audio. Only the resulting text is sent to our servers.
How meal text is processed
To turn a sentence into a list of foods, the text is sent to an AI language model provider (Google Gemini API). The provider receives only the meal text, not your name, email or profile, and we use the service under terms that do not allow the text to be used to train their models. Calories are then calculated by BiteTalk using nutrition databases, not by the AI.
To answer common sentences faster, we keep a cache of meal sentences and how they were understood. Cached sentences are stored without your account ID. If you’re offline, what you said is kept on your iPhone until it can be logged.
Apple Health
If you connect Apple Health, BiteTalk may write dietary energy and macronutrients and read body weight. Health data is used only to provide BiteTalk’s features. It is never used for advertising, never sold and never shared with data brokers. You can turn off access at any time in the Health app.
Service providers
We use these providers to run BiteTalk. Each only processes data needed for its job:
- Supabase: database, sign-in and server functions
- Google (Gemini API): understanding meal text
- RevenueCat: subscription status
- Apple and Google: sign-in; Apple also processes payments
We do not sell personal data, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising or use third-party ad trackers.
How long we keep data
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile, food log and weight data are deleted from our active systems within 30 days. Backups expire on a rolling basis. We may keep limited records where the law requires it.
Your choices and rights
- Access and correction: view and edit your profile and log in the app.
- Deletion: Profile → Delete account deletes your account and data. See Delete your account.
- Export or other requests: email [email protected]. Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or US state laws), you may have further rights to access, port, restrict or object to processing. We respond within 30 days.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Each user’s data is isolated by database access rules so only you can read your log.
Children
BiteTalk is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
International transfers
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we’ll update the date above and notify you in the app.
